Refugio Plaza de Mulas
SERVICES
ROOMS
The Refugio Plaza de Mulas, qualified for lodging, has 80 places separated in three types of rooms:
Class “A”: Private room with sheet, blanket and private bathroom (there is no potable water,
the wc is emtied with a bucket full of water that you have to fill it in a deposit)
Class “B”:Private room with blanket.
Class “C”:Dormitory with 12 to 14 places.
DINNING ROOM - SNACK
The dinning room, the only one in Plaza de Mulas, has fifty places for having meals and a confortable space for reading and resting with an apolling overlooking of Cº Aconcagua and Cº Cuerno. At fix time - table breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Sandwiches, pizzas, snacks, tarts, panqueques, cold and hot drinks are all served during the day which can be choosen in a menu. There is also a wine list.
Breakfast: ( from 8:00hs to 10:00hs ) coffee, tea, infusions, milk, juice, bread, biscuits, pudding, cereal, cakes, alfajores, jam, butter and dulce de leche. ( Scrambled eggs and omelettes by order)
Lunch: (13:00 hs) and Dinner (20:00 hs) starter or soup, first course, dessert, bread, juice and coffee, tea or infusions. Vegetarian food or especial by order.
Our meals are made of fresh food (meat, chicken, vegetables, fruit, and pasta) transported every day by ours mules.
BATHROOMS AND SHOWERS:
There are three bathrooms for man and two for woman, in the morning the hot water is conect to be cleaned. The hot water shower ( from 11:00 hs to 19:00 hs) is one of the most pleasant moments after few days of long wakings. The priority of this service is for the clients who are lodged in the Refugio or in the Camping.
It's not necessary to take towel, champu or soap.
TELEPHONE AND INTERNET
In December 1998 Telefónica de Argentina set up at the Refuigo Plaza de Mulas the highest semi- public telephone in Argentina, it is possible to phone anywhere with some argentine legal curse coins, the rate is the same as every public telephone in the city.
Some years later, in 2003, internet services were installed ( from 10:00hs to 22:00hs), it is used from our two notebooks.
ARGENTINE POST OFFICE
In 2001 an other achieved profit by Refugio Plaza de Mulas was the Argentine Post Office services with the highest seal in Argentine, with the legend:
UNIDAD POSTAL 28-REFUGIO PLAZA DE MULAS- CERRO ACONCAGUA – ARGENTINA- NIS M3515- M5500XAD.
The letters and post cards are received at the Refugio Plaza de Mulas, sent by mules to Penitentes and taken away to the Argentine Post Office.
MULES
Our mules arrive at the Refugio Plaza de Mulas carring merchandise and all client's baggage every day. The baggage transportation is done by mule from Penitentes, this is our logistic base, to Confluencia or to Refugio Plaza de Mulas, there our employees receive and keep the baggage under roof until the client's arrival. When the expediton is finished the baggage is weigthed and keeped under roof until the arrival of the mules, which will transport the baggage to Penitentes, there it will be given to the client by our employee. This service includes the trasnfer of the clients to Horcones by our vehicules to start the long walking. At the same way you will be being waited for you to take to Penitentes, to wait your baggage carried by mules.
PORTERS
There is an excellent group of porters , that will be incharge to transport the baggage to each altitude camp ( Canadá, Cambio de Pendiente, Nido de Cóndores, Berlín y Cólera). Each porter carries 20K Kg.
FREE CAMPING
Few metres from the Refugio Plaza de Mulas there is a big place where you can camp, this services is free.
FREE DINNING ROOM
Inside Refugio Plaza de Mulas there is a big dinning room where you can cook with theirs elements and stove. This space has tables, chairs for eating and you can stay under roof sometimes of the day. There is also a place to do the washing up.
EQUIPMENT DEPOSIT
During your expedition you can leave your baggage in our under key deposit
RENTAL EQUIPMENT
With reservation we rent tents, crampons, duve jackets and gloves. We also rent VHF radios ( handys).
ENERGY
The energy is providing by 12v solar panels, for the communications, telephone and internet. Electronic groups of 220 v are used for the lights and battery charge (from 20:00hs to 22:00hs)
COMUNICATIONS
BLU radio is used to contact with Penitentes and Mendoza and VHF communication with altitude camps, Doctors, Rangers and Rescue Patrol.
RECREATION
Ping-pong table, chess match, playing card, games of dominoes and more games are hability to be used the days before you go to the summit.
SOUVENIR
A lot of souvenirs can be get as regards from Cº Aconcagua and Refugio Plaza de Mulas, such as t shirt, caps, polars, maps, books, post cards, etc.
